As some of you may know, I love me some Vikings. So, what could be better than Odin, lord of the Vikings? How about when you mix him up with Wagner, Monty Python and Happy Birthday!I’ve been messing with Toonboom Studio recently and have been wanting to make some funny animated stuff. Since it was my birthday recently (did you get your Ødbjörn the Viking (In)action™ Figure?), I was inspired to meld some of my favorite things. What are those you ask? Vikings. Richard Wagner. Monty Python. And the Happy Birthday song! I’ve always got a kick out of Monty Python since I was a little kid. Especially “Monty Python and the Holy Grail“. I loved the animation of Terry Gilliam as well. Searching for some Viking images on the internets, I came across the artwork of the Russian artist Konstantin Vasilyev. Immediately I knew I had to do something in the vein of Python with his awesome artwork of Odin. Of course I had to use the melody from one of the most metal songs, “Ride of the Valkyries”, also know as “Die Walkure”. That is how I ended up with “Die Birthday”. Without further ado, here it is:
