When the ancient Greeks would land on an enemies shore, the generals would give the order to “burn the boats”. This ideal meant that there was no turning back. It was a commitment to “do or die”. Alexander the Great burned his boats upon arrival on the shores of Persia. Hernando Cortez burned his after arriving in Mexico. The idea for this piece came to me yesterday after listening to this sermon by Pastor Mark Driscoll of Mars Hill Church.

I was blessed to be able to attack this idea today and get a lot of it done. It’s not finished. I want to do something a little different with this one. Go a little old school. Maybe I’ll get my wife to paint it (real old school!) Anyway, I wanted to do something epic, and love the idea of a “do or die” situation. Burn the Boats!
