Is the “Yellow and Black” back?
Okay, all of these have finally come in, and I can say that I am really excited about this album, or at least the clips. And let me say that they are like eating just one potato chip … I need more!
“Eclipse of the Son” – This song starts off the album with a quick tempo rocker. The “Stryper” harmonies are finally back! Tracy Ferrie also sounds like he is playing a lot more expressively. At the end of the clip is a harmony break similar to “Rockin’ The World”? (I think, don’t have my collection with me at the moment). NOTE: I finally found it, it is similar to the end of the chorus harmonies of  ”(Waiting For) A Love That’s Real”.
“4 Leaf Clover” – This next song brings back the lead trade offs of Michael and Oz in the vein of the title cut from “Soldiers Under Command” – YES! Also some cool funk bass from the Ferrie camp. The clip ends with a scream from Michael and an abrupt ending that leaves you hanging – DANG IT!
“Love Is Why” – Now they slow it down a little with this song. There is a break on here that will send chills down your back. Mikes still got the pipes.
“Murder By Pride” – The title track has a little more of the harmony guitars and a thick crunch to it. I can see this going over great in concert. WHOA! There is that scream again.
“The Plan” – Okay, this one is a little more poppy, but honestly, if you have followed Stryper at all, there has always been an element of pop to them. It’s a good song.
“Run In You” – Another mid tempo acoustic rocker. I could see this one doing well on contemporary christian radio. Very catchy.
“I Believe” – Yet another slower acoustic number. It definately has the Stryper harmonies there. Now it is kicking in and Michael is belting. There is even a little hook that reminds me of a Alter Bridge song. This started out slow, but picked up.
“Mercy over Blame” – This one picks up. Michael is screamin like he believes it. Ohhh, what was that? Awesome ending belting out a note for a while.
“Alive” – Okay, slowing it down again.
“Everything” – This one picks up again. Some duel guitar solos, who does that anymore? Severly missing.
“My Love” – A crunchy rocker with some duel guitars again. It has a nice swing to it. A good way to end the album.
Over all great production. The harmonies are alot thicker and Stryperish sounding. Solos (yes!). Duel leads. Some great playing from all members. From what I can tell of the lyrics, they sound great as well. This will be a must have this year. And whether I win this contest or not, I’ll be happy to have this in the catalog.
