deviantART just recently had a contest to design some shirts. I had heard about it late in the game and was in the middle of the Peachtree Road Race contest, so once again I was under the gun and rushed.
This first idea was actually an old one that I had laying around. I was contacted by Soundmass a while back to create a shirt for the group Synnove, based on my “Lords Of Dorkness” design:
I loved the artwork and wanted to do something with it, so I decided to throw it in the competition.
The next one I did was for their “branded” competition. This had to have their logo in it. I wanted something with a more illustrated look than the previous entry. Part of the inspiration for this piece came from the video for Sword’s “Fire Lances Of The Ancient Hyperzephyrians” , as well as a little Alfons Mucha (maybe his darker red headed step brother?) and a love for those old 70′s black light posters (come on you know you’d love to see this one glowing on the wall above your bed)
The rushedness of this and the lack of sleep from the Peachtree Road Race contest put a bit of a damper on my creativity for this contest. There was also some confusing information on whether they wanted raster or vector artwork which had me stalled a few times on what to do. I tried to create something that was different than the typical skulls, wings and such. I think that there is more that could have been done with these pieces, but then again I think that of all my pieces.
