Becoming the Archetype CD Release Gig

Last night I got to see Becoming the Archetype at their CD release gig at The Foundation Venue in Cleveland (that’s Georgia, not Ohio :D ). For some reason or another, I’ve never got to see BTA play live, so even tho it was a Monday night and 45 minute drive away, I made the trip up the the rock’n'roll capital of the North Georgia Mountains. Hey, for $15 you got to see four bands play and get the new CD “Celestial Completion”, not a bad deal in my book.

The opening bands, Thaddeus, The Overseer and Watch Your Back, played tight sets and did great jobs of getting the crowd going. I would definitely like to see more of these bands.

BTA played “Necrotizing Faciitis”, “The Epigone”, “Artificial Immortality”, “Dichotmy”, “How Great Thou Art” and “Ransom” from their catalog and “The Magnetic Sky”, “Internal Illumination” and “Path of the Beam” from the new album. I couldn’t have asked for a better play list. Getting to hear “Artificial Immortality” and “Ransom” from “Dichotomy” was worth it alone for me.

On a sad note, Jason Wisdom mentioned that his father-in-law passed away, and he would not be playing the rest of the CD release gigs. Bradley, the bassist from The Overseer got on stage and played a few of the songs, as he will be filling in on bass while Jason is out (not sure who is doing vox). He did an awesome job, especially since he only had 24 hours to learn the songs. This gave a unique opportunity for Jason to sing sans bass. Watching Jason “frolic” on stage is a sight in itself. I would describe it as “Curly from the Three Stooges after eating hot peppers and getting too many eye pokes from Moe on a rampage”. It was awesome! Where else would you see a lead singer guzzling sweet tea and pouring it on himself? I still have a smile on my face and can’t say enough. Some of the highlights for me were watching the band pray before the gig. Not a “hey look at us pray”, but an honest and humble meeting with God. Also singing “I AM A BEAST!”, “HOW GREAT THOU ART!” and “My hands have taught me terrible things, His hands have SET ME FREE!” I will definitely go see these guys again and recommend them to anyone.
